You can't spin the shit out of Bush, no matter how hard you try

Apparantly Gore is now against the president (maybe he'll run again in 2008) for his illegal espionage. And the RNC goons use the stupid method of pointing to other peoples' bad behavior to justify their own. Just because Gore was for illegal espionage in the past doesn't make it ok. And you can't tell him that because he supported it in the past he is obligated to support it forever. You're all a bunch of idiots, and I hope you all go down when the president is impeached for breaking constitutional law.

First of all, there has been no breach of Constitutional Law by the President, or the NSA working under the authority of the President. Second, someone who once advocated a like activity in his president who now seeks impeachment for the same activity is basically the pot calling the kettle black (translation: hipocracy). Congress knew about what the President was doing before he started it, and knew he has continued it. The only reason they're making a fuss over it now is their desire to have something against the President and the RNC to use against them during election season this year. I think in spite of the media abuse of the President, though, the voting public will see that monitoring outgoing and incoming INTERNATIONAL phone calls made into know or suspected terrorist harboring nations or to known terrorist numbers isn't quite as big a breach of civil liberties as old news media outlets make it out to be.

Regardless of how big a breach of civil liberties an action is, ANY breach is too big a breach. As Jefferson said: "A society that will trade a little liberty for a little order will lose both and deserve neither."

The supreme court has upheld time and time again the wiretap and surveillance requirements that a warrant be needed based on the 4th amendment:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

And just because Gore is a hippocrite doesn't make what the president is trying to do any less serious. Any breach of the constitution is a violation of the oath of office. And since he's admitted it, he has two choices. Step down gracefully, or face a grand jury and go to prison. As should any congressman who knew what was happening and refused to intervene or speak up.
